Why Men are Choosing Plastic Surgery

By Tommy John

Gone are the days when plastic surgery appeared to be reserved just for women. More men are choosing to make the leap and have cosmetic techniques. Plastic surgery for men is becoming increasingly common. The reasons are many and relate to modern society as well as advances in medical science.

There are way more single, middle-aged men in the modern society than in the past. This is because of changes in the family institution. More marriages finish up in divorce especially in the middle aged group. Men also desire to look great and younger than they are to draw in women and find a companion following divorce.

Appearances also appear to matter more in the modern-day world. We are showered every day with adverts showing lean, sculpted and young bodies. Young appearance appears to equate to success, both private and professional. Men want to be successful and move up the career ladder and stay in high visibility and power positions. Cosmetic surgery offers possibilities for professional success by providing the perception of youth and strength; and perceptions count for a lot in today's world.

The perception has been that men don't care about their appearance. This perception nonetheless , is not true and is quickly changing. Men are also receptive to their appearance and feel the effect of aging. Cosmetic plastic surgery offers the possibility to maintain good looks during and after the middle age years. Men feel more compelled today to remain fit and fresh.

Advances in medical technology have also contributed to men selecting cosmetic surgery more today than ever before. Cosmetic procedures have been streamlined and become more effective. They're not as intrusive as in the past and recovery is quick. Many procedures don't even have to be performed in a hospital. They can be performed at an outpatient office or a doctor's office. Patients can be back to work in 1 or 2 days. There's not much scarring; most cuts are made into the natural lines and creases of the face or body to cover them.

An additional factor encouraging men to seek plastic procedures is that there is less stigma today than in the past. Cosmetic procedures are not reserved for actors and other famous individuals any more. They have reached the mainstream and are gaining traction steadily.

Common cosmetic procedures that men are having today are Botox, hair transplantation or restoration, microdermabrasion, laser hair removal, and liposuction. Liposuction is employed in the back, upper flanks and abdomen, jaw and neck. Experienced cosmetic specialists should be consulted before any decisions regarding suitable treatments are taken.
