The Basics of Spinal Stenosis and Treatment Options

By David Greene

Regardless of what is believed in today's society, there are other options to relieve the pain caused by spinal stenosis rather than surgery. Activity modification, steroid injections, and regular exercise are three of the most common treatments for stenosis of the spine.

Exercise is not in and of itself going to cure spinal stenosis, but it can truly help relieve the pain associated with it. Staying as active as possible is an essential part of the treatment for affected individuals.

Individuals are typically told how to modify their activities so they are putting less stress on the areas with stenosis.

The most common spinal stenosis symptoms include tingling and numbness in the legs, walking limitations, and low back pain. The stenosis of leg pain typically appears acutely, but it can worsen over time chronically.

When an older person is seen walking while leaning over a shopping cart it is usually the case of stenosis of the spine.

Pain with spinal stenosis comes and goes often. There are certain activities which make the pain worse and stopping those activities will often make the pain quickly go away.

Spinal stenosis causes pinched nerves in multiple areas, and chiropractic therapy can often help alleviate pain with an effective treatment plan.

Having a surgery should be the last option for spinal stenosis. It is a quality of life and surgery is a last diagnosis resort. Physical therapy exercises improve posture and strengthen the spinal supporting muscles. Chiropractic manipulations and massage can help dramatically as well.

Adjustments of the spine can help to realign vertebrae that are out of whack and improve blood flow due to the restored anatomy. This can help relieve pain and also decide has been shown to help reduce spasms and muscles and allow for better back support.

Spinal decompression treatment, which is intermittent traction, is a very effective therapy for spinal stenosis. It helps take away pinched nerve pressure and allows the spine more space to breathe.

Chiropractors look to balance the bodily systems and achieve pain through a concept known as homeostasis.

Although steroid injections may help alleviate the pain of spinal stenosis a ton, there are some small side effects associated with them. Chiropractic treatment is natural and a lot less expensive than treatments such as surgery.
