Need Advice On Quitting Smoking? Read On

By Alison Bolton

Every smoker knows they should quit. Have you ever had another smoker ask you for a light and then remark how happy they were about the vitamins they were getting from their cigarette? Nonsmokers have no idea what quitting takes, but exsmokers do. Read on for their advice and expertise.

Counseling may be what you need to quit smoking. Sometimes, there are emotional reasons as to why a person smokes. When this issue is dealt with, the urge to smoke also disappears. If this sounds like something you would like to try, you can speak with your general practitioner who can direct you to the right person.

To improve your odds of quitting smoking for good, don't combine your effort to quit with another goal, particularly weight loss. You already have enough stress and cravings to deal with just trying to quit smoking. If you try to wean yourself from something else at the same time, you are likely to fail at both.

To avoid cracking under the pressure of cravings and nicotine withdrawal, find healthy ways to deal with the resulting stress. That could mean hitting the gym at the time of day when your cravings are worst, picking up a new hobby or getting a regular massage appointment. When you have downtime, surround yourself with pleasant distractions like good books, scheduled chats with friends or new games.

No nonsmoker will ever understand how you are able to light up, even though you know what smoking does. Nor will a nonsmoker ever understand how tough it is to quit. However, there are those who have quit, and their experience was shared in this article. Apply their ideas to your own life for liberation from smoking.
